We have a roof again and just in time for the rain! We upgraded from the rolled rib roof we had before to one that has concealed fasteners. Sam at DG Contracting was great to work with. They were expensive, but worth the extra money. They went the extra mile to make sure I was happy with the work they did. I would definitely use them again.

Overall Update
After this last week, we are just about back to where we were before the tree fell. I have all the sinks finished with supplies and drains hooked up and the counter tops siliconed in place. I still need to drill the holes above the bar for the pendant lights and build the false beam at the peak of the ceiling. We also need to install the water heater and water softener. I still need to install the ceiling fans in the living room and finish around the fireplace. We are going to cut a niche above the fireplace for the TV and install some conduit to run wires from the shelves on the right up to the TV. I suspect we will not get to the stone on the fireplace until next year, but we'll see how that goes.In the kitchen, the dishwasher is installed as is the garbage disposal. We are down to just finish work. The doors on the cabinet under the sink had to be cut down to fit the deeper sink, so we need to repaint those. I need to install toe kicks, the end panel on the upper cabinet and the crown molding along the top of the upper cabinets. We are waiting on the granite piece that fits behind the stove before we set that as well.

Bathroom
The shower pan and curb have been cemented down and sealed to the walls. The only piece left to do is the membrane that goes over the top of the curb. I have that piece cut, but I ran out of cement so I could not finish it. The drain flange is also cemented in and sealed to the pan. I have the pipe to form the trap under the floor, but I wanted to wait for the cement to cure before I attach it for fear that I would pop the drain out of the pan by pushing up on it. As you can see, the floor is also complete in the bathroom. The temporary counter top is also in place and ready for inspection.

Shower
We have decided to go with a full tile shower this time, rather than a fiberglass tub/shower combo like we had last time. We purchased a Schluter Kerdi shower kit in order to waterproof the walls and avoid building a pan out of dry mortar. I have the Kerdi membrane applied to the walls and the pan cut to fit. I don't like the curbs that come with the kit, they are way too big. So I have made our curb out of some left over cedar we had laying around. Next step is to cement down the floor and curb and seal them to the walls. After that, we can put in the floor in the bathroom.
Floor Joist Repair
When the tree fell on the cabin, some of the weight was taken up by the utility room walls. That load was transferred to the floor and cracked 2 of the joists between the utility room and kitchen. We found this a while back but the contractor never bothered to fix it. So I cut 2 pieces to scab in with 1/2" through bolts.

Kitchen Sink
Today I finished building the kitchen sink supports. You can just see the leg on the front one mounted to the back of the cabinet face. I used 3/4" square aluminum tubing and welded it together to bare the weight. The sink is sitting on those supports and has been shimmed into place. The top of the sink has been sealed to the counter top, but I still have to caulk the front of the sink to the face of the cabinet.

Floor
Today we took the floor as far as we can until we get a little bit more work done. The girls bedroom is now complete, but I have to build the railing on the loft before we can finish that. I also have to install the shower floor before we can do the bathroom. We have the pieces all picked out and ready to be cut when we finish the needed work.

Floor
We got off to a bit of a slow start before lunch today, but things picked up after that. We managed to get the living room and our bedroom all done. It's turning our very nicely and it does not look like we will need to use much of the flooring we saved out of the cabin. We plan to save it for use in the bunk house when we build that.

Flooring
Kelly and I have this coming week off work, so we plan to get a bunch of work done on the cabin. We started with the floor today. We decided to go with the same floor we had last time and we had the contractor save the stuff we took out of the cabin, so we have plenty of material to work with. Today we got the kitchen, utility room and dining rooms all done.

Shower
This time around we have opted to build a full tile shower rather than a fiberglass tub/shower combo. We always knew the original bathroom was temporary, but we figured we would get 5-10 years out of it before replacing it. In order to put the niche in the wall under the shower head, I had to reframe part of that wall. There was a stud that ran down the middle of that niche, so I had to cut that part out. I also had to move a plumbing vent over inside the wall. It now runs up the right side of the niche. Finally, I had to add blocking in the wall to tie the shower doors into the framing so they will be nice and solid. I also had to move the shower head to the left so it is centered in the wall. The contractor mounted it too far to the right. Finally, I hung the drywall. Next up is to install the Kerdi shower kit.

Lighting
Friday night and Saturday I worked on the can lights in the kitchen, dining room, living room and loft. I had to enlarge the holes that the contractor cut in the kitchen and loft because the clips on the lights would not fit. Then I had to cut the holes in the dining room and living room. These lights work extremely well. There is no humming or buzzing noise and no flickering like the last set of lights.
