Exterior Trim

I was able to get all the trim for the windows and doors cut this weekend but we had to bring it inside to spot prime due to the weather.  We are putting a shellac based primer on all the knots to keep them from bleeding through the paint.  As soon as the weather clears up, we'll take it all outside and spray all 6 sides with primer to seal it all before we hang it.

I have decided I'm going to make a sort of jam so I can get the door to seal fairly tight because this side of the house gets a ton of weather.  I also took the time to put some waterproofing around the opening, since we had the material.  The jams were made out of a piece of the old siding that we took off the house.  We still need to put in the windows and assemble the door.

Yesterday after work, I managed to get the new metal roof on the storage shed.  It was windy and cold but at least I managed to finish it before the rain started.  Next up is to build the door and the shelf inside for putting the chairs inside.  We should be able to get that done and start cutting and priming the trim on the house this weekend.

After installing the drip edge and trim on the outside of the storage shed, I moved to the inside and installed a pair of closet rods to hang the life jackets.  Next up is to build a shelf on the other end of the shed so we can put the beach chairs inside rather than under the deck.

Last night after work, I got the trim cut and installed along the top edge on each side of the roof.  Because of the railing on the deck, you can't see it in this picture though.  I also got the drip edge installed all the way around the edge of the roof.  So next up is to install and flash the roof to the wall.

While I was working on the boat house, Kelly was priming the boards that will be used to build the doors.  She got 2 coats on all 6 sides of each board.  Next up, we need to pick the colors so we can paint them before we assemble it all.  You can see in the lower right corner, we picked up all the trim to go around all the windows and doors as well.

We spent much of Saturday running around and didn't get any work done.  But today we got quite a bit done.  I managed to get the front wall and the roof done on the boat house.  After I took this picture I put the blocks in between each of the eves and spray foamed all the seams to keep the critters out.  Next up are the doors and windows.

The weather was great today!  I managed to get the back and both side walls framed, sheathed and stood up all before lunch time.  I also have the template made for the rafters.  I need to get a bunch more 2x4s and plywood so I can frame and sheathe the front wall and the roof.  I should be able to finish it next weekend.

House Leveling

After finishing the floor, I realized that I needed to level the house before setting the walls on the boat house.  The bathroom and our bedroom needed to be raised by 3 inches!  I had a little mishap with the jack and nearly dropped the house, but all turned out well!  After raising it that much that quickly, there are a couple spots in the drywall that need to be fixed.

The weather was cold and windy but the rain held off long enough to get some work done outside.  I got 8 concrete block set and the floor system framed for the new boat house.  This will be 12' wide and 3' deep.  We'll keep life jackets and smaller pull toys in here.  I think I'll put the compressor in here as well since it will be used to fill the larger pull toys.
