Radiant Floor Heat

Since we had to take the flooring out, I decided I am not going to miss the chance to do the radiant floor heat this time around.  I've done a bunch of research and found an expert that is willing to help me with the design to make sure I get it right.  Today I finished the grind layout in the dining room.

Sheathing

The trusses over the main part of the cabin are done as well as the section over our bedroom.  Both the street and lake sides are sheathed, but they are still working on framing the transition to our bedroom.  Once that is done they can finish the sheathing and get the ice & water shield put down.  We are still on track for being weather tight, mostly, by tomorrow.

Trusses

The rest of the roof has been torn off and they top caps repaired.  It took quite a bit of work to get the walls plumbed and the caps leveled, but it turned out well.  The trusses over out bedroom and part of the girls bedroom are done.  The rest should go up tomorrow.  With any luck it should be mostly weathered in by Friday.

More Demolition

The contractor started taking the roof off the cabin today.  I still can't believe all that hard work is being undone.  At the same time, it is really nice to see progress, so maybe we can use it for the majority of the summer!  They are still telling me 2 months, which in contractor time means 3-4 months. That puts us into July or August, but we will still get to use it this year.

Framing

The contractor started some of the framing yesterday. They're working on the master bedroom door and closet right now.  The drywall in our closet has been taken down and the walls will need to be reframed since they took some damage as well.

More Demolition

We have been fighting with the county and the insurance company for 2 months to get the cabin fixed, but we finally have the permit and the insurance company is coming around as well.

The demolition is nearly complete for the second time in 4 years.  It's very sad to see it back at this stage, but it will be really nice, in fact better than before, when it's done.

Clean Out

The rest of the tree trunk was removed from the roof during the week.  Today, Jeremy and Paul came up to help us get all the big stuff out of the cabin.  Both refrigerators, range, microhood, dishwasher, washer/dryer, both beds, night stands, dresser, interior doors and the glass that will be used on the railing of the deck are all in the shipping container 1/2 way up the driveway.  All that is left is the stuff in the kitchen.

Storage Container

In order to get all our stuff out of the cabin, the insurance company is paying for a shipping container rental.  It was delivered today and we will start hauling everything up from the cabin this weekend.  I wish we could have gotten it closer, but it was tough enough to get it this far down the driveway.

Clean-up

We are lucky to have some amazing friends.  We had close to 20 people show up to help us get the tree cleaned up.  All the branches are cut off the trunk and the neighbors yard is totally clear.  There is still a 40' trunk buried in the roof, but that should be removed in the next few days.  The tarp is stretched out and covering the whole roof as well.  Thanks to Trish (and crew), Chris, Dave, Mike, Dad, Andy, Jeremy, Angelo, Bryon, Ben, and Luke.

Tree Fall

There are no words to describe what happened on Jan 13th.  So I will simply post the pictures.

I have a video taken from the Ring doorbell camera as the tree was falling.  I opened the camera less than 20 seconds before the tree fell, so it was recording and I was watching this live as it happened.
